When thinking about the creation and adaptation of environments in a project, it is important to attend to the practical elements. Although a well-designed space creates a pleasant atmosphere, it is necessary to comply with certain elements of occupational safety and comfort. Therefore, warehouse lighting goes beyond decoration and should be based on making this work area comfortable and safe for the worker.
In principle, to give a greater energy efficiency to the place, it is recommended that the store is divided into different zones according to the type of activity that is going to be carried out. Once this is decided, you can go to review some basic concepts to achieve the right lighting of a warehouse.
Basic elements for warehouse lighting
Here are some basic tips that should be taken into account to achieve adequate lighting in a warehouse:
Blur. The light must be projected in a diffused form, preventing the worker from being dazzled by the beam of light. Ideal in these cases can be the LED panels if the ceiling is not too high.
Stroboscopic effect. This is an effect that occurs in the vision before the flickering of light. When this happens, the worker loses normal vision and sees the objects at a jump, which can be very dangerous. This problem can be easily avoided with the LED luminaries.
Quantity. Do not skimp on the amount of LED tubes or bells that can be placed in the place to ensure a perfect light, which illuminates the entire area.
Color temperature. In this case, there are two possibilities. At first, you could say that the ideal temperature is Cold White since this type of light revives colors and improves concentration, something very important in an area where workers will remain for several hours. Neutral White is the second option, its natural white color, similar to daylight, helps create a good working environment and does not cause discomfort to your exposure for extended periods. The latter is more used in areas for offices, the Warm White.
Shades. The location of the LED luminaries used as Tubes or Hoods should be positioned so that they do not produce shade and hinder the operator's vision.
Specialization. Also, it is very important when deciding what type of LED equipment is needed and its location in the warehouse, taking into account the difficulty and specialization of the work to be done in the area. Something that must be taken into account, due to the height of the roofs of many of these premises, some are 5 or 6 meters, is the opening angle of the LED product that is used. The higher the ceiling, the more you should place LED luminaries with a small opening angle, a maximum of 120°, thus preventing the light from getting blurred and getting lost along the way. Finally, the general light should be used and, if necessary, by direct demand of work that needs to be done, direct light on the operator and place of work.
