Due to strong demand for LED backlighting in smartphones and LED lighting, global demand for LED chips has rebounded in 1Q15, earlier than previously as the first quarter is traditionally an off season.

Booming shipments of LED chips and LED packaging are expected to persist in 1H15 and prices will generally remain stable in the period. Even prices for some high-end products may rise in 2Q15. A high-power LED chip is currently quoted at about $0.06 and a mid-power LED chip at below $0.03.

the largest Taiwan-based LED epitaxial wafer and chip maker has received orders with urgent shipments from LED lighting suppliers and therefore expects utilization of its production capacity to grow to over 70% in Mar.
